Here’s a mid-80′s Mercedes Benz 300D with a turbo diesel, spotted in Naperville, Illinois. For me this is right next to the VW Rabbit as the coolest diesel cars to hit the North American market. It would be even cooler if converted to a grease car.

We went to my grandparents’ house for Father’s Day and I took some pictures of my grandpa’s ’57 Chevy Bel Air. That’s him in the Chuck Taylors! The blue car is his neighbor’s ’55 Chevy.

Wisconsin Lakeside International Trucks

I took a ride up to Waukesha, Wisconsin yesterday to pick up the head and intake manifold for the 4.0L straight-six that’s going into my AMC Gremlin. Forest, at Independent Tuning Solutions, ported them for me and they look great. I’ll have some pictures of that with the motor sometime soon. Monday is the last day of this semester for me, so I should be back to working on the Gremlin pretty soon.

On the ride home I spotted a CASE IH sign and an International sign from I-94 and decided it would be a good photo opportunity.

Scout Roll Bar

The Scout II needed a roll bar so that I will be able to put a bikini top on it down the line instead of having the hard top on in the warmer months. The pipe is 2″ steel conduit for the hoop and 1.5″ for the diagonal supports. The mounting plates are 1/4″ steel. My dad welded everything together and then I rattle canned it flat black.

I ordered the “rust is lighter than carbon fibre” from volkswagenstickers.co.uk, I think that it suits the truck well

The remainder of the to-do list for the Scout is as follows:

Make or buy a bikini top
Replace the body mounts (or what’s left of them!)
Finish weeding out emissions hoses from the engine bay so that it doesn’t look like it’s full of snakes anymore
Paint the bed and cab floor with bedliner
Reupholster the bench seat

That’s all for now.
